Run your swap file min & max the SAME. This will keep your system from resizing the swap all the time and keep your drive from fragmenting as much.

with that much ram use conservativeswapfileusage=1
start menu -> run -> type system.ini and hit enter -> under the [386Enh] heading add the following line to the bottom (without the quotes): "conservativeswapfileusage=1" -> click file and save -> then reboot

With 512MB under 98SE I actually get the best results running the CSFU switch and letting Windows manage my swap file. 99% of the time my Swap file size is 0MB, eg not used.

Disabled... You don't need it with that much memory.

<<Run your swap file min & max the SAME. This will keep your system from resizing the swap all the time and keep your drive from fragmenting as much. >>

This is one of the most widely spread false rumors on this board, and the known tech underworld.

Having a Static size swap file WILL not prevent hard drive fragmenting anymore than it would be if you let windows manage it.
Microsoft will tell you that VM has to do full sweep seeks for every bit of information it needs to retrieve/put into VM, so a static file, or fragmented make NO difference in performance. Go read it.

Actually, letting Windows manage it is best, because if it only needs a couple of megs to use for swap, it can fill the first available hole(s). And as I said, being the hard drive has to do full sweep seeks for every bit of info, it doens't matter if it is fragmented.
