what is the best video card under 140 bucks

Good call.

I think it would, but i don't remember the benchies i've seen offhand.

I'd go for the GeForce 6600GT as it supports Shader Model 3.0 and overclocks quite well. After all, it's only $10 more.🙂

Def. the 6600GT.

While the 9600xt is a nice card, couple months down the road you will be disappointed with the performance.

Last time I checked the 6600 is only PCI-E. The 6600GT is AGP and PCI-E. I could be wrong though. I'm looking for a good card uner $140 as well and I'm having a hard time. To be more specific I'm looking for the best card under $150 Canadian without buying from a US reseller. It seems as if 6200 AGP's are non-existant in Canada. Any help?

I was wrong. Both the GT and normal 6600 are available in AGP form.

Both the 6200 and 6600 are availible as AGP. Either of these would be good choices but only the 6200 can be had for less then $140. That is if you're looking for an AGP card.

As far as I know, it would work fine with UT2004. That card is probably the best bang for buck for low end PCI express video cards.

yeah, pci-e, 6600

if agp, get a 6200, which can have its pipelines unlocked and then it can be OCed a bit making it a bit better than a 6600...for $100 you can't go wrong with a 6200

and the 6xxx series supports SM3.0, which will be needed later this year 😉

? please do explain.

The GF6200 (non-TurboCache) shares the same NV43 core as the 6600\GT models. Usually, you can unlock the extra 4 pipelines (making your 4-pipe 6200 into an 8-pipe card). Then, overclock the hell out of it, and you got youself AT LEAST a plain old GF6600, and sometimes more. I haven't seen anyone get to 6600GT levels yet, but I may be wrong on that.

I definitely recommend the 6600 or the 6200 (non-TurboCache), as they are both excellent cards. Also, yes, the 6200\6600 is MUCH BETTER than the X600. The X600 is essentially a PCI-E version of the 9600XT. Not a bad card, but it is outclassed and outperformed by the 6600s.
