what is the best USB dial-up modem available?

Still can't get Broadband in my area (yes, it REALLY sucks)... I was using a nice USR 56K v.92 Performance Pro modem, but it went bad. I am now looking to replace it and I would like to go with something USB. However, I don't think I want a "sucky" modem... I want a hardware modem with V.92 and V.44. Any suggestions?

-Thanks

have you checked if Broadband wireless from either cingular, verizon, etc is avaliable? A little pricey vs dialup, but it would make all the difference 🙂

LOL, using AOL is not a Biblica Commandment, 😉 switch to another provider.

May want to check with the Cell carriers anyway. I was in the same boat. No cableTV, No cable internet, No DSL. Nothing. Get great cingular cell service though. I have ordered one of thier cards for my laptop and hope to have it soon. I am told in my area folks using the same service are seeing 800-1200k down. Cost is 59.99 month unlimited.

I used a U.S. Robotics Sportster External Fax/Modem several years ago. It was fast...for dialup... and very reliable. It's not USB, it uses a serial port interface. You can find them here on the For Sale Forum sometimes, or on eBay for around $50.

Unlike internal modem, No matter what, any external device has to be checked first if it can support the "Gorgeous" service of AOL.

It is an Authentication issue.
