What is the best upconvert dvd player?

I've used a few, and by far and above, my PS3 does a better job than any others i've used.
 
Just bought a Toshiba D3 HD player, upconverter from Costco for $80 which included 2 HD movies. Granted HD is a dead format, this thing upconverts some of my standard DVD's to near HD quality. Also depends on your TV. The A3-D3 will upconvert to 1080i or 720p.

Do you really need 1080p?

If money is no object however, the Oppo is rated very highly. Google it.
 
For under $100, an HD-DVD player is the way to go. The XA2 is the best, but any HD-DVD player out there does a great job, and they're dirt cheap. If you want to spend a few hundred, there's a Samsung Blu-Ray player that also has the same chip as the XA2, so it would be a good choice.

If you just want the very best and money is absolutely no object, AND you don't care at all about high def formats, there are some other options. Denon makes an amazing player. But I just can't see spending hundreds on a DVD player these days, particularly if the point is to get the best video you can.

The best readily available upconverting DVD players are the Toshiba HD-DVD XA2 & the Oppo DV-983H ... either of these can be had for less then $500 & will do a very nice job.


Of course if you actually if you want the absolute best that money can buy you'll need to spend several thousand dollars & at that point you'll find a lot of debate as to which specific model gives the best overall results.

pretty sure you don't need the hd dvd player to upconvert with the xbox.
