What is the best type of paint

Inside the house, along the walls, are wooden varnished 'frames' that we want to paint mahogany. But what type of paint is best suited for it? We want a clean mahogany finish, slightly or fully glossy would be good, but we don't want to have to take off the existing varnish, and paint straight on-top of it. There is a lot to paint so it has to be relatively easy.

This is just some of the wood we want to paint:

McCormick puts out a good product an is relatively inexpensive compared to bigger brands, e.g., Duron. My dad was a house painter for 30 years and he swore by McCormick paint.

Oh, wait a minute. You want to "paint" wood mahogany? You sure you don't want to stain it? If you going to stain, then just buy some self sealing stain from Home Depot.
