I have an isy 99 and a NAS and want to check them periodically when I am gone but the ip address changes sometimes and I can't get in. Someone suggested DynDNS. Could someone explain to me how this works? Thanks.
DynDNS runs on your network on a machine(or even a router if it comes with that option, I know Tomato on a WRT54GL does because I'm using it) and periodically updates the website with your current IP. You would only need to access your home network using a host name you specifically setup. example, you could do ingeborgdot.dyndns.biz. then use that hostname to get into the network. I use a similar setup, but use www.no-ip.com instead.
There's still some config depending on what you actually want to do. Best bet is to assign static IP's to your devices so while you're gone they won't renew and get a different IP (unlikely, but you never know), as well as open ports on your router to access your devices...again depends on what you're actually trying to do.
I use mine to SSH into my machines at home, I run WinSSHD on my main PC...which works ok so far *knocks on wood*. I use Putty to SSH in, and give it the hostname: xxx.no-ip.xxx to resolve to, and it works great..
Two things you need to do first. Create a dyndns hostname, and set up an update client:
http://www.dyndns.com/support/#sec-contact ,choose update clients. An update client is what will keep your WAN IP in sync with the dyndns hostname you created. Once you have that set up and updated, getting into your home network will work using the hostname you created.
Also, use those links JackMDS posted. ezlan.net is an excellent resource.
