As the title states. What is the best sound card to run on Windows 2000? In terms of compatibility, quality? Which is the best for gaming? The best for music? The best for DVD's? Just curious, thanks! :D

EDIT: Oh, one more thing, how about the best with 5.1 support? ;)

I am sure you'll get alot of opinions on this one, but I have been happy as hell with my Phillips Acoustic Edge.(retailed for $90.00 when it came out a few months ago).
They have been real good with updating their drivers so far, and I think the card kicks a SB Live's a**.

Yeah, I'm also thinking about the Hercules Game Theater XP. I'm thinking of buying that card but am worried that SP2 will not fix SPDIF passthrough....

Any sound card that works :)
You might as well ask what is the best sound card overall... and you'll get many different opinions.
Phillips Acoustic Edge, SB Live! are my picks as the top 2 sound cards. I'd give the edge to the Phillips card.... the EMU10K1 chip is getting a little long in the tooth, it's not going to carry Creative much further.

The Hercules Game Theatre XP has it's place too if your a music afficionado.
