Anything built off the nForce2 chipset would be an excellent choice. The Soltek Golden Flame series and the Abit NF7-S are doing well, as are the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe.

It's ok, but an Nforce2 would be a much better choice than that overpriced Soyo KT400 board...

If performance is the goal, then you should go with the N-Force2 chipset and TWO sticks of identical RAM.

The KT400 is another feature rich chipset, but does not have as much bandwidth as the N-Force2.

The performance increase with dual channel memory is very little, around 0-2%.
The KT400 is a good chipset, the KT400A is about the same speed as a nForce2 in Single Channel Mode, with more features, however, i`d go for a nForce2, they seem to OC better.

Just got myself an Asus A7N8X, been having a bit of problems with my computer lately, so I got it to replace an 8KHA+.

Anyway, I don't know about the 8RDA, but IMO the quality of the 8KHA+ is very debatable, I got three of them at once, one for me, one for my brother, and one for a friend.
My friends mobo crapped out and eventually died, got replaced, and the NB fan on the new one is making a load of noise, sounds like it's grinding against something.
The NB fan on my mobo makes that noise as well, and my brother has been complaining about his computer making lots of noise, I haven't had the time to take a look, but I can't help but suspect it's the same problem.

So that's 3 problems with 3 motherboards in roughly 1½ years, and 1 potential problem.
The 8RDA might be better, but Im staying away from Epox for a while for now.

Anyway, just ranting a bit since Im a tad annoyed

Isn't the passive cooling on the A7N8X northbridge nice? I wonder why hardly any mobos used this before. That little 6 cm fan is almost always the loudest one in the case.

BTW my vote is for the A7N8X. I haven't had one crash in 6 months of using it. Plus it overclocks my 1700+ to 2400+ speeds without a hiccup. Finally, the post reporter is very saucy... "POST complete, now booting from OS!"

There is less generally than 5% difference in performance between any of the top chipsets for AMD. So go for reliability and features. If you want something that just feels subjectively quicker, check out something with the SiS 748 chipset.
. If I were buying a top-end mobo, I'd be getting the Tyan 2495ANRS. If you want top performance price be damned, there's always P4.

Hey.. Don't ask me. I'm still using a PPro 180 mhz oc'd to 200 mhz. It works just fine. It's just not a gaming machine is all.
