I have 3 video cards Im swapping out right now trying to decide what in the hell is going on(radeon 64mb, voodoo5500, and geforce ddr). I have looked over the manual of my 19" dell monitor I got 2 1/2 years ago, and it says 1024x768 32 bit color can do 85hz, which I think should be acceptable for current graphic standards.
I want to know what the best setting in windows is first off.
but im experiencing not slowdowns but this wierd stairstepping in games. currently its less noticeable on the voodoo card but is on every card. framerate counters can be above 30 fps, no hitting the hard drive and this annoying graphical output can be picked up by my easily and it makes games unenjoyable. some games though I don't even notice it.
could it be my eyes? is my refresh rate for my monitor actually too low? something to do with a 19" monitor? is it just something all computer graphics cards do even though the same thing doesn't happen on say dreamcast on a tv with lower refresh rate, and lower fps. Im just totally stumped.
mostly you notice when panning quick. im playing at 1024x768 in all games and its not the pixels but like straight edges are being rendered a block at a time and taking a long time to complete the whole image as its moved across the screen. hopefully this makes sense?
