What is the best SCSI CD ROM and SCSI DVD ROM?

Well, the best SCSI CDROM (and probably the only one you can still find) would be the Plextor 40x Ultrawide drive...cant say I really know of any others that'd be good. As to the SCSI DVDROM drive...why go SCSI with that? You'll spend alot more for really not an improvement in speed really...maybe a little in CPU % but I doubt it. Just get a good, new IDE one. (New Toshiba 16x, Lite-on 16x, or even Pioneer 16x)

Personally I like the 50-pin non-Ultrawide version of the 40X. It's supposed
to have the superior firmware and I don't have to put it on the same channel
as my hard drives. On the other hand, I completely disagree with your view
on SCSI. Just go to general hardware and look at all the poor sods trying
to figure out the best way to connect 6 IDE devices...

<< Pioneer makes their slot-load 16X in SCSI. Awesome drive. >>

i agree. i just bought the pioneer 305s and it is a great drive (doubles as 40x cdrom)

I just bought a slot load 16x Pioneer ATA66 IDE DVD drive... it is V.good. I have run speed tests on it and it can transfer data at 20x without a problem... I also have a SCSI CDR/RW and it can only transfer at 12.04x. The CD rom I took out of to put the DVD player in was only capable of 7x 🙁 ... so you can see why I am impressed with Pioneer.

Which of the Pioneer drives are Region Free? Could I watch a PAL DVD if I had one of the region free models?

Isn't this set by the software after you first 5 uses?... please correct me if I am wrong... I can take it!😛
