ok we live in a one story house and have 6 people living in it. We all have laptops. and we want to buy a good router that gives good performance (enough for gaming like battlefield2) w/ all 6 people surfing wirelessly.

one router i had in mind was Netgear RangeMax WPN824 router. i mean is that good?

i heard Atheros chipsets are real popular in networking..

soo i mean which router would you recommend? oh and it doesnt have to be the latest 2006 model... can be a year old model.. i will shop on ebay for our router.

Thankyou!!

tom's hardware had a router showdown not to long ago. I just reformatted my computer and forgot to save my favorites of all things, so i don't have the link myself. Just google "Tom's router" and i'm sure you'll come across it. Try to get one that will do QoS so you can set it up for BF2 ports having higher priority then surfing the web (so you don't randomly get huge lag spikes when someone starts to download anything).

Years ago I checked out a few different SoHo routers and liked linksys the best. I've stuck with linksys for SoHo equipment ever since and have not been dissappointed. Linksys still seems to be the most popular. For SMB stuff, there is another thread here asking about SonicWalls in which other's chimed in about better SMB routers (we use a SonicWall here, but I don't like it). Personally, I think I would like to use a 1U or 2U rackmount server and put IPCop on it.
