What is the best remote control available, bar-none

Friend is looking for a gift for a guy that otherwise has EVERYTHING. We looked at one remote, but I don't want to mention it until I have other suggestions in order to not influence anyone.

For the top of the line in commercial and residential installs the two big players are Crestron and AMX .. they are usually used to integrate several different components, do whole house stuff, lighting, security, etc.

That said, if you need something for a basic home theater it's a waste of $ imho 🙂

For that case see remote central as a poster above mentioned.

wow.. you're probably the only other person i've seen on here with knowledge of crestron and AMX. Have you worked with them before?

I spent a year as an AMX/Crestron programmer for an A/V company.. pretty cool stuff, but waaaay to expensive and completely unneccesay for basic residential stuff.

Yeah, I work at a university with Crestron.. also maintain a few AMX systems.

People do use Crestron/AMX in their home theaters. Like those with motorized screens, projector lifts, fancy projectors, signal processors/switchers, lighting, stuff like that.

Definitely not for us normal folk. Well I do have some Crestron stuff at home, but it's older than the last generation 😛

Best remote control? An undocumented alien, ftw!

Price no object? Whoa! Then I'd either have to go with a Russian mail order bride or a series of Swedish au pair girls.

The one that changes the channels and the volume without having an annoying touch screen or OS that reboots... In other words my $5 RCA from Fry's.

I love my Logitech Harmony 680.

Controls my Media Center PC and all my other devices without an issue.
