Everyone knows that spam is one of the greatest plagues of the internet. If spammers could be brought to justice, what do you believe would be the best and most apropriate punishment for their crimes?

Confine spammers to individual cells. Place a 486 box and 14 inch monitor in each cell. The computer of course has no real net access, just limited pop3 with no smtp or http. The only e-mail received by the mail client is spam itself. Assign the spammer the task of writing (by hand), essays of no less than 1500 words regarding each piece of spam received by the box. The quicker the convicted spammer completes 25,000 essays, the quicker he/she/it can be released. Have some retired high school English teacher grade the papers. Papers with any mistakes must be totally rewritten.
Short of public execution by draw and quarter, this is the most effective punishment I can think of.

I like what the guys at slashdot did to that guy who made a decent ammount of money off spam. They found his home mailind addy, and proceeded to sign him up for every kind of junk mail that they could find...needless to say he gets a large delivery of crap in the mail every day that he must sort through to find his bills, etc. I think that this should be the benchmark by which we punish spammers.
