What is the best program to OC GTX 460, increasing voltage ?

I have 2X GTX 460's, and I want to give them some more juice. My current OC is at 785 Core, 1870 Memory. I have been using EVGA Precision to overclock which is a great little tool, however it does not include the ability to over-volt. Does anyone know a good program to use ? Also, what is the maximum voltage that you would increase it to ?

My cards are reference designs but I don't mind cranking the fans up.

MSI Afterburner is the widely accepted "must have" for just about all video cards regardless of overclocking or not

Yes, I have been told that, but do you know specifically if I can add voltage with that program ? Specifically for GTX 460 in SLI.

I remember when I had 5870 Crossfire, and you couldnt add volts in a crossfire setup, just single card setups.

are you sure about that? are you sure one or both of your 5870s didn't support overvolting? Did you make sure to enable overvolting in Afterburner (its disabled by default)?

My two GTX470s in SLI can be overvolted with afterburner (two different brand and design 470s at that, one reference and one aftermarket, neither of them MSI), so if both of your 460s can be overvolted I would assume that yes it would work.

Why not download and try it? There's essentially no hassle or downside to having Afterburner installed, at the very least you can use it to monitor clock rates/temps/fanspeeds/etc.

The 5870's was a strange case, I know that over-volting two cards can be done, it was just not the case back when I tried it.

Now your GTX 470's may over-volt fine, but they are not quite as new as my cards, and I know these programs need to get upgraded to support new cards, and new features on the cards.

That's why I want to know if somebody has actually done it yet.

And also, what settings they used if they did.

Yes you can do it, and it works perfect.
d/l the directions pdf.
There is a option to check to sync clocks between 2 or multiple cards.
I use a custom fan profile as well.
And the monitoring functions with OSD in games.
I use it to display
gpu1 temp, load %
gpu2 temp, load %
fps
almost all gtx 460's have voltage adjustment in the range of .987-1.087
Which still lowers in idle 2d/ with lowered clocks

Hmm is there a way to get higher than 1.087v? MSI Afterburner won't let me go higher than that.

I don't think you want to go higher than that.
The voltage circuits on these cards get hot, trying to regulate and feed the gpu.

The MSI Hawk allows more with a different voltage controller.

What did you get for max clock speed ?

72C at full load. going to try to up the oc in the future.

Only 860/1720 at max voltage. Currently I'm sitting pretty at 825 on stock voltage. Maybe I just got a dud

You guys that are overclocking, make sure you uninstall all other overclocking utilities besides MSI afterburner to achieve maximum overclock. Oveclock the core first also.

A gtx460 overclocked @ 860 will beat a 6850 at 1010 core so thats not a bad overclock for the money.

Not in the games I play it doesn't. They are pretty much equal that I have seen.

XFX 6870 on its way. And I don't overclock GPU's either. So that argument is irrelevant to me.

6870? Seems the 6850 with a 1000 core clock is only 5% slower and the 6870 dosen't overclock that well. Personally I would have saved 60$ and bought a overclocked a gtx460 or 6850.
Good luck though since you dont overclock.

But you know....In all honesty, I have been "trying my hardest" to hold off buying a card till the 6 series was released then decide.

The 6870 or the 460FTW. Chose the 6870. But....I may order the GTX460FTW in a few weeks. Then compare.

I know how to overclock. I have OC'd my cpu's. But cards of this calibre, no need for me to.

EDIT: When I get it and do compare...It will be on a Phenom X4 970.

Set the app to run on startup, then setup your AB overclock profile as you like and set the option to apply the overclock automatically when the program is launched.

It's really pretty easy tweakboy, and AB doesn't use much resources, it has a very small footprint, you won't notice it. Small price to pay for such convenience.

After having used afterburner it is the first OC tool that I'd honestly pay money to use.

And I'd pay money, good money, if there was a comparable software based app that would let me overclock my Intel CPU and system ram all from the convenience that AB provides.

If MSI ever expanded the capabilities of Afterburner to include cpu OC'ing and system ram OC'ing I'd be in heaven, and I'd easily pay $50 for the privilege of such a convenience. Especially the overclocking profiles that are hotkeyed.

MSI afterburner is really a great tool... i dropped my rivatuner because i had a hard time playing with it...

AB is getting better and better every update... hope they increase the voltage much more LOL!
