What is the best player for lossless audio playback?

I have an ipod touch currently.

I...actually think the SQ is slightly lacking, especially when you compare it to dedicated cd players, or even cheap vintage sony discman's.

I know that Apple has the ALAC lossless format, but like, the DAC of the ipod touch is kinda lacking.

So, what is the best option for purely SQ portable, ideal for like home use with a good pair of headphones? The only guess I can think of might be the 120gb Zune, and that is from back in 2008

I thought the new iPhones/iPod Touches have a pretty good DAC?

I use my Nexus S with a Wolfson DAC (Voodoo Sound kernel installed) when I feel like using hardware better than my ears.

No idea really. I only know that from the iPhone 3GS on, iPhone audio quality has been pretty good.

The Classic iPod is supposed to have a better DAC than all of those though.

The cowon x7 looks good. It's basically a hd-based player. Since COWON is known for SQ, that's a good bet.

But, meh, I think I'm just gonna stick with what I have: ipod for portable, used a cd player at home.
