Costco seems to be the cheapest, unless you want all that other software. I paid 33$ for the deluxe version at costco, comes with a 10$ rebate making net cost of 23$ includes free state tax and electronic fed filing. Although for the two latter items you have to pay 24.99 and 12.95 respectively and get rebates...
Since I have no use for all that crap software you can get free after rebate at staples or om i didn't go that route...not even worth the hassle of selling it on egay...

Tax Act is just as good. It has the additional merit of being free, which might qualify this thread for Hot Deal status after all. Their "deluxe" version for $9.95 is the best deal, unless you really need state software as well. Illinois offers free online filing to most people, so there is not much need for paid state tax software here.

Not a hot deal but definitely a hot topic. Just change your post to include a store and price (any store and price) and that should satisfy the forum cops ;)

dodo (do´do) noun
plural dodoes or dodos

1. A large, clumsy, flightless bird (Raphus cucullatus), formerly of the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, that has been extinct since the late 17th century.

2. Informal. One whose dress, lifestyle, and ideas are hopelessly passé.

3. Informal. A stupid person; an idiot.

Dutch colonists in the Indian Ocean settle on the island of Mauritius, named after the late Prince Maurice of Nassau, and begin clubbing to death the island's indigenous bird, the dodo.

It's not looking good for Dodo either since his other post with the same title was locked as well.

FPSguy, get rid of that I.B.T.L... My "friend" got banned for this, and after a while eventually ended up getting a different account. Anandtech moderators tend to be less approachable than Lady Of Pain in Planescape, and it is not a good idea to do something that they frown upon.

Oh, and dodo, it is generally not a good idea to take a thread that has been locked before getting even a single response, and try to start exact same thread again.

If you don't want to shell out all the cash up front for the Circuit City deal and if you don't mind TaxCut instead of TurboTax, you can get a halfway decent deal at Office Depot.

TaxCut Deluxe + 24.99
TaxCut State + 19.99
Something useful + 5.02
15 off 50 coupon - 15.00
--------------------------------
Grand total = 35.00 + tax shipped (free shipping because it is over 50.00)

TaxCut Deluxe MIR - 5.00
Taxcut State MIR - 19.99
--------------------------------
Total after rebates = ~10.01 (depends on tax)

Not flaming hot, but a good deal without having to put out much cash up front.

Check out Gainskeeper.com for a cool Schedule D buster! They import your data from the broker and do your Schedule D for you. $49.99 for a one year account with 100 imported transactions. I spent $$$ on a accountant last year and Gainskeeper calculated the same in seconds. Also exports results to tax programs.:)

I wouldn't touch TaxCut, and even with TurboTax all I use it for is to organize my tax info and do a few what if and reasonableness checks, then I hand it off to a good accountant. If you ever get auditted, having a smart accountant is well worth the cost. And if you never get audited, you must be missing a bundle on deductions.

Dude, your accountant probably uses a program to do your taxes...Filing taxes is not where you need an accountant...you need an accountant (or better yet a tax attorney) ahead of filing taxes to tell you how to reduce your taxes. Don?t believe me? Print out your taxes from TurboTax and compare it to the print out your accountant gives you. See if you notice any similarities.

Unless you make boatloads of money you have no need of an accountant or tax attorney.

OH, my GOD!!! :Q What a mistake I have made. I plan to post this post in How Do I and I wanna thread (I can not decide which is the best place). While I use new topic inside those two thread instead of using reply to post the message. That is why you see I have two posts under hot deals instead of inside those two thread.

Thank you all for the information I do appreciate it. And don't ban me pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. :D

Have a good day,

dodo
