I'd imagine the fastest PCI video cards now are the Geforce4 mx 420 cards. I'm not sure how they stack up to a geforce 2 gts though.

the radeon 8500LEs are around $100, they're good cards from what I've read in the reviews.

I replaced Visiontek GF2GTS with the $99 Radeon 8500LE 64 just yesterday. Here are a few relative 3DMark2001 scores:

GF2GTS@220/350 core/mem @ 147MHz FSB: 4330
8500LE@250/275 core/mem @ 145MHz FSB: 8480*
8500LE@275/275 core/mem @ 145MHz FSB: 8650

*Had to reduce FSB from 147 to 145 to complete 3dmark2001 with the 8500LE.

System is 1600+, 98SE, 9031 driver and r3dtweak for tuning.

Hope this helps!

Is this 8500LE you are talking about PCI? I was just throwing out the Geforce2 GTS AGP as a benchmark. I need a good PCI video card, but also want to know how it preforms compaired to some AGP cards. I know it will be slower, but are we talking 5% or 25%?

There is a Radeon 7500 PCI apparently. Do a search, it was mentioned this thread here yesterday.

I imagine it would be faster than a geforce 2 gts, but not by a lot.

INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not care about 3D speed on your second monitor, and need to run at resolutions at 1200x1600 or above, the Matrox G450 PCI is for you, at around $95. If you do not care about 3D speed and run below 1200x1600, the Matrox G200 PCI is for you, at around $40 shipped. You cannot beat the 2D quality on these video cards.

does "small profile" = low profile? the pic looks like a normal pci card.
