What is the best PCI slot to install a sound card in?

Does anyone know if it makes any difference which PCI slot a sound card is installed in? I just bought the Fortissimo III and want to set it up right. I have a Asus A7N8 nforce2 deluxe motherboard. Anyone have any suggestions?

What version of Windows do you have? If XP, it won't matter. If not, experiment, and try and get it to an unused (or relatively unused) IRQ.

If running Win98 or lower, PCI 2 or 4 as they have their own interrupts. As NYHoustonman said, if running Win2k or WinXP, anything but PCI 1, but preferably 2 or 4. (Avoid using 1 as it shares with AGP).

What I ALWAYS recommend is that people should install any PCI cards as far away from the graphics card as possible to allow for maximum airflow around the AGP slot. Anyway, it doesnt matter what PCI slot the sound card is in as long as it is at least one PCI slot away from the AGP slot.
