what is the best pci-x card? I would imagine it would be a 6800 series chipset on one but the best I can find from nvidia are 6600gt. their nice but not great. the x800 from ati are just too expensive.

As a note: PCI-X is NOT PCI-Express. PCI-X is on servers/workstations. The common abbreviation for PCI-Express is PCI-E.

And the best meaning fastest, is the ATI x800XT Platinum; there are also nVidia 6800 Ultras. Both are avaialbe for PCI-E, but cost an arm and a leg. Basically your choices right now for PCI-E are a) Pay over $500 for a top of the card or b) Get a cheap budget card. There isn't really any midrange PCI-E right now (Unless that 6600GT is actually shipping and available).

I think newegg had a 6600GT in stock. Or maybe it was just the vanilla 6600. In either case, both cards are decent midrange perfromers for under $200.
