I always thought my Netgear router was acting up because when ever I game using my wireless MA101 usb adapter in one of my comps I always timeout. The connection is decent but cant stay consistent. I upgraded to WinXP SP2 and it improve a bit but not much, still timedout. But recently my brother got a new Dell D800 labtop which has a Dualband broadcom mini-pci card. It always get an excellent connection and this is using windows 2000 SP3 (his work comp). I can play all my games online without any lag and I get an awesome ping of less than 60MS.

So I was thinking maybe because my card is USB and it sucks at keeping a sustained transfer rate (this why fireware HD's are better than USB). I am currently looking for a good B/G card to use in my comp.

Currently I have my eyes set on the Trendware B PCI card from zipzoomfly which is $25 after MIR.

Are there any other cards that are as good as my bro's Broadcom dualband Mini-PCI solution that he's using in his dell labtop?:D

Thanx!

There was a deal a few months ago to get this one for free after rebates. I picked one up. I've only used it a couple times, but most people report that they get excellent connections through it.

Trendware nics are reported to be pretty crappy from what I've heard. $25 is too much for a B card anyway.

I'm looking for a PCI solution not another USB. Thanx!

Take a look at US Robotics.

USR are the only company (other than Cisco/Orinoco/3com) that I will use for wireless, I've had too much bad experiences with D-Link/Netgear and most of the "home networking" brands.

I've used USR pcmcia, usb and pci cards, as well as wireless routers/access points, and all have worked flawlessly from day 1, without a problem.

Confused, what about Buffalo Networking gear? Any opinions on them? What about Zyxel?
USR's stuff seems a bit pricey to me, and I'm not yet personally convinced that their products merit those prices.

The G520 from dlink is a very good card. I've had nothing but good luck with them.

VirtualLarry,

I have heard good things about Buffalo (i know a couple of people who have used them without problems - but then again I know of people using the same pieces of kit i've used without problems that wouldn't work at all for me), but not sure about Zyxel.

I've installed 3 USR setups (wireless router + pcmcia + pci), and not a problem at all with any of them, but i've seen D-Link/Netgear setups that have had nothing but problems.

As with everything, YMMV. I personally think that the extra few £ on the price of USR is worth it for ME over the slightly cheaper price of D-Link/Netgear. I've got D-Link at work, and Netgear at my GF's, and both are very tempremental.

I think everyone has problems with everything. I've heard of nothing but problems from D-Link and have nothing but problems from Linksys, but have had great luck with Netgear. As a rule, most any PCI card will be better than any USB device. Think about it, more power = better reception. You definitely get more power thru PCI bus than USB. Anyway, my recommendation is to try some stuff out from a retail store and if it doesn't work, return it. Prices are almost exactly the same and MIR's usually make up for the difference. Give the Netgear stuff a try IMO. I've used their G router & G USB 2.0 and both have worked flawlessly (Used 2 diff G routers). GL
