What is the best pc to pc file transfer software??

Please help, I need to transfer files from an old laptop with win 98 to my Desk top with win XP.What is the best software for this Mission.

You don't really need any software. Just network them together and transfer the files you need.

If you don't have a network card for the laptop or don't want to spend money on it because you won't be using it anymore, just take the hard drive out of it and hook it up to the desktop machine temporarily. You can get an adaptor for this task at any computer store for about $5-10.

What if your file sizes are different once you transfer the files? I have that problem right now. I transfer a folder with several files in it and it becomes larger once I transfer it. It starts at 13 gb's and ends up at 21 gb's. Both computers are using WinXP Pro with the FAT32 filing system.

Is there a piece of software that can assure that the file or folder is the same once you transfer it?

Theoretically, wouldn't hooking up the second hdd to the system with the hard drive you want to transfer to be even better? I can't figure out why I'm getting different file sizes though. Weird..

That is strange,I've transfered files from dozens of hard drives in various computers & never seen anything like that,have you checked the data to see if it's duplicating files or what exactly is increasing?

This is too weird. I looked at it more carefully and apparently WinXP was hiding half of the files. When I viewed both files (before and after) in Win98, they both showed up as 21 gb's. I wonder why WinXP is hiding my files? I didn't ask it to.

I think most of Microsoft OS's hide system files and the such as a default. Don't know about XP though.
