I need another hit, I need my fix.

Guildwars isn't doing it for me, and all I seem to want to play is DOTA 3.9c on Warcraft 3.

Keep hearing about World of Warcraft, good and bad, and I used to want to get EQ 2, but I know that is just dumb, and BF 2 servers seem to be laggy all the time...

So, anyone?

Well, what kind of game do you want? Do you want to play an MMORPG or a FPS?

Keep hearing about World of Warcraft
Well, WoW is not as in complicated or as in depth as EQ2, but what can you expect from a game that is so focused on PvP ;). It is a typical blizzard game. They made it simple and fast paced but kept the fun. Pick this if you enjoy fast paced, simple/streamlined fun, and would like a mixture of PvE and PvP.

I used to want to get EQ 2, but I know that is just dumb
Why is is dumb? It is a fun game for the first 20 levels. Then came BF2 and i have not had time to play EQ2 anymore, but back to the topic of EQ2. Much more complicated crafting system than WoW. Very team focused and forces you to group much more than WoW (many little things thrown in there also to encourage grouping), only problem is if you have a bad apple in the group, you can find yourself working off exp debt all night long (done this many of times). My main problem with EQ2 now is the inability to share quests. This means that your leveling is going to be mostly just group based grinding (killing things over and over) to get to your next level the quickest. But on the plus side, in EQ2 there is no PvP, the game is totally focused on PvE (questing) content and crafting. There is little drama and you can actually read the forums rather than just seeing Nerf Shaman or Buff Warlock. You also do not get spam from duel requests every 10 sec, since there is no way to duel. Pick this if you care nothing about PvP, if you are a very hardcore MMO person that wants to have the most in debth experience possible, or if you would rather be in a group constantly rather than solo 90% of the time. Most people that bash EQ2 have never played it or have not played it for a descent amount of time. Yes, Sony is evil, but they do a much better job running their servers than Blizzard does with WOW, much less downtime than WoW.

You can see my dated (sony and blizzard have released TONS of new content and modified the games heavily since I wrote this) comparison of EQ2 and WoW from a person that has played both: EQ2 and WoW comparison

It will be hard to get into either right now unless you have friends, economic wise. In EQ2 my spell upgrades cost between 8G and 1Plat for lvl 10 spells:Q, this at a time when your typical quest reward cash is about 3S. Inflation is very bad in both games due to many people having max level characters. You can buy spells and abilities from trainers at all levels in WoW and thus the only thing you have to worry about is equipment price inflation. But you could always risk banishment and buy gold/plat from a chinese farmer:disgust:

But I enjoyed EQ2, WoW, and Guildwars, although I am getting bored with all of them, Took me only a week to run out of content in Guildwars in less than a week(but its not like its an MMO, so what do you expect, guess they got to get you to buy the expansion packs somehow). It will take you about 6 months if you dont play 24/7 to run out of content in WoW and EQ2. By then they will have new content updates to keep you going. They can both be had for around $30, pick up WoW and EQ2. Play each for a month and then decide who you are going to give your $15 to. But if your only MMO experience is guild wars, play WoW first. Although from what i read in your OP i think you would be much better off playing BF2 or maybe some CounterStrike Source.

all those MMO's suck.. they're either too easy like WoW or you gotta sit in the same place for 15 hours waiting for something to happen (cough an artifact spawn)

just play an FPS like doom 3 or COD or BF1942 or BFV or just some random FPS you find at the store

Edit: actualyl I havent looked at Guild Wars much that one MIGHT be alright

Ya, I played UO, which was awesome, then I switched to EQ, which sold me, then came AO, then Guildwars, and now im pretty much stuck. I told myself that 15 a month is not worth it, but I find myself needing a game that I can commit hours of mindless grinding for some reason. It seems all these games have a lifespan from 6 to 18 months. I was gonna seriously consider EQ 2 because you can have any race be any class, and I liked EQ alot, but the economy sucks now.

Guildwars was ok, and I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I felt I had to commit to my guild, like I HAD to get on every night, and I realize that I LOATHE PVP. So ya, im leanin towards EQ 2 strangely.

Lemme go read the wow vs eq2 forum...

I think it was because Lord British abandoned it a looong time ago. But I had good times on that game. The actual game where you could die anytime, really kept you near guards, but really pissed me off. Right when a pk would appear on the screen, my computer would freeze, and I would have to reboot. Only to come back online and listen to a repeating death sound, then restart again, and come back as a ghost. Dial up....
But ya, I went back to it, and it was all crap, now they have Samurai Empires? wtf

I played each game roughly 2 years a piece. All games are destined to get old anyway.

Ok, so far it is EQ2, I think I will wait on it tho, I think I am just in a slump for the current time.

BF2 is really winnning out right now. I mean, if you were going to say of all time, I'd say Quake1. But this current second, BF2 is rocking.

Ya, I agree.

Still, I work from 8 - 6, and I am so tired when I get back from work, all I can do is eat, play games and sleep, then wake up at 6:45 and do it all over again.

I only look forward to the weekends when I go to a bar with my friends, but then it's not guaranteed fun, but most of my friends don't have time in the after hours of the week and all they want to do is smoke pot.

Oh well, maybe I should just accept the simple: Go outside.

I don't know what I would do from 6:30-10:30 pm though.

I quit WoW around level 30. The griefers were pretty bad (although not as bad as UO was back in the day), and it was just starting to bore me.

Eve Online without a doubt, on a totaly different level than all the other mmorpgs. No more grind!

<-- Playing for about two years now, on a brake right now, corp member taking care of the account during my brake. Still I cant stop following whats happening in the game, alliances rising and falling, wars braking out all over, friendships forged.. and then ofcorse major patches like the one released yesterday which bring Capital ships into the game along with lots and lots of other cool stuff.

Go to a PvE server. Plenty of PvP there also, arena events, battlegrounds, fight zone in the neutral cities.

Is something else about to come out that looks absolutely promising?

I keep thinking about WoW... I am the type that actually enjoys these "power" games, or at least I like the addictive qualities of these grinding games, even though I know they are useless and never ending.

I heard Matrix Online was crap, and for a while I was looking at City of Heroes, then I bought Guild Wars because it wasn't monthly, but I didn't realize how pvp oriented it is.

Just so you guys know: IMHO: GW is crap. The quests are long and repetitive, and sometimes too hard to do without a team of lvl 20 guildies, and if you start a new character, get ready to do it all over again. Most of the quests unlock certain "skills" or spells so you can become better. The pvp is kind of cool, but it is pretty unbalanced. It depends on how devoted you are to do all the quests and get all the skills so you can essentially be the best, then you have to practice and have a good guild and know what skills go with what. And you have to have a balanced group as well. A team full of one class obviously will lose...

I just don't like it.

im telling you man, it sounds like you would love WoW. if you arent up for getting frustrated by being ganked, just go pve, there are still tons of pvp opportunities (though, nothing gets rid of that frustration by ganking them back). there are also newer servers so you wont necessarily be joining one that is full of lvl 60s...

but what about ghost recon? that is still a great game, online is great also depending on the game. BF2 is awsome but alot of times it just seems like mindless running around and shooting everything in sight without rhyme or reason. still love it though
