i've got a kt7 and duron 700, currently running 100% stable at 900 (100x9) and pretty much stable (not for games tho) at 936 (i had it running Seti@home for about 12 hours with no crashes)

i've heard of ppl getting >1ghz with a 600, but probably most Durons will do 900+

I'd check out overclockers.com, they've got a cool database of overclocking experiences. People send in what speed duron they got, and how high they were able to overcock it. It also gives the average overclocked speed for each duron. It can help in giving you an idea of what each speed can do, but as you can see from the range, nothing is absolute. I'd get the MSI K7T Pro2a for the mobo, but that's just me. If not that one, I've heard the Abit is a great overclocking mobo in terms of features.

Good Question..I had to ask myself the same question a couple weeks ago.

For motherboards..overclocking and tweaking I would go for the MSI K7T Pro 2A (ATA100 compatible)..Cpu adjustments are all done with software..no dip switches. Easy to install and nice board layout. (5 PCI and 1 AGP ..no ISA)..MSI has been getting great reviews lately and personally I bought one...

It is hard to say which Duron is the best...Check out overclockers.com web site to see the database of Overclocked CPUs....Personally, I went with a Duron 600 and I am happily flying at 950Mhz 1.85v (100fsb X 9.5). But check out the database and see the stats..(BTW my week is 36).

Lastly, you may want to find someone that sells the tested Duron units. I understand that they come up in the farsale section here from time to time. That way you pay a few more $ but get a "good cpu"

Check out OCZ, they sell overclocked Durons...Duron 1Ghz is $69.99, or for $10 more you can get a Duron 1050. I myself bought the Duron 1000/Abit KT7/Monster2 cooler combo from them...very happy to pay a few extra bucks and not have to play overclock roulette with some random Duron I got somewhere.

Mine is actually a Duron 600, the product info for the overclocked Durons says "AMD Duron 600MHz core or better unlocked and tested stable at XXXXMhz." for their overclocked CPU's, so I guess you could end up with a faster core...not that it really matters.

Good Luck,

Dennis

EDIT - Mine is actually running at 1016Mhz, 1.85V, will run Prime95 for days with no errors.

The best overclocker seems to be the Abit KT7, it's a good board, don't be afraid to tinker with it. If you want stability I'd go with the MSI or Epox.

OCZ 's Reseller Rating

It does not look like they cleaned up their act, looking at some of the latest. :Q

Last I heard they were still unlocking with the pencil, which is unacceptable on the commercial level.

I have the non-RAID version of Abit's KT7 mobo and I'm very pleased with it. One advantage it has over the MSI board: one ISA slot. For me that's important because I wanted to keep my USR v.90 hardware modem as a back-up in case my cable goes down.

As for which Duron overclocks the best, I had a D600 running stable at 900MHz. I now have a D700 that's stable at 1083MHz.

Hey thanks for all the input. I guess i will be getting the duron 700.
I already have the ABIT KT7 Hope its stable enough to handle it as a server.
plan to run a linux server or a 2000 server.
I talked a rep at ICOMPZ and told me that they run the ABIT KT7 as their server
machine they run their website on. he told me with the bios update that, the kt7 is a
solid board.
