The FF7 soundtrack? Though I admit I haven't heard much else besides that as far as midi is concerned. I need to try and find that again...

Final Fantasy music is NOT MIDI. It is SIMILAR TO MIDI in that it is sequenced samples, but it does not qualify as MIDI, because no MIDI equipment was ever used during the production.

The use of MIDI sequencing equipment in the production, plus the use of the MIDI file format. MIDIs of Final Fantasy music are fan-made copies (and generally suck goats)

A MIDI file is nothing more than an instruction set to tell your synthesiser in your computer to play a song. That is why the file is so small compared to wav even compressed formats. If you have very good quality synthesisers the sound can be very good as well.

With that I can demonstrate this for you. :) Beethoven anyone?

Here we have Rage Over A Lost Penny (Yeah Beethoven was a long time ago and a penny was a lot of money then!)

Here is the MIDI file

Below we have an MP3 of what this song sounds like when played on a high quality digital music system (Synclavier) NOTE: This has track 10 added (percussion set) which was omitted in the MIDI above as a lot of drumkits won't sound right at all or just sound like a retard playing an extra piano track on top of everything.

Playback

It's all in the sampleset (well, mostly, seems the Windows synth is ignoring a lot of the friggin dynamics in that MIDI)

Remember back in the day when we all bought sound cards with expandable memory so we could load superior/custom samples to enhance our gaming experience? Oh how things have changed. All these young'uns don't know what we went through. They're all spoiled by only having to think about ONE piece of hardware, their damn video card. Back then, it ALL mattered.

Hell, I don't really REMEMBER back then, either, I just intentionally threw myself into it in 2003. It was a true learning experience.

Don't know from which FF

Final Fantasy 6 - opera scene.

amazing game ::thumbs up::

FF7, FF8, and FF10 were good too, but FF6 is the only one I played all the way through.

The amazing thing is that the whole game is like 3.5 Mbyte! This includes all the programming, music, graphics, dialogue. In comparison, the mp3 of the opening score from the FF6 CD is like 5 mb by itself!

FF6 definitely has the best music of any game I've played, with my three favorite being the opera score (this one), the opening score (Terra's theme) and Cyan's theme.

ROTT rules.

Another game to add to the list of games that need updated versions.

ROTT with Crytek engine would be the shoit. I would truly get nothing done.

I never actually played the game at the time

I just happen to like the music, lol (and I forgot how I found it..probably my brother did actually). Maybe I should play it just for the hell of it...

Lots of the FF7 songs were killer midis too. The Aeris song especially, very moving for game music.

You should download the Aeris Remix at OCR Remix. Very nicely done.
