I'm looking for detailed info on the memory. Please don't just say crucial or something else.

the brand is a preference thing, i like crucial

the type you want is pc133 (or higher if you want to overclock you might want pc150 or pc166)
you probably want non parity, unbuffered, cas2 (thats the best performing ram)
you probably dont want ecc or registered ram.

cas2 is faster then cas3

if you go to www.crucial.com you can get some genuine micron 256mb pc133 cas2(same as i said above) for about $60

What's the best pc166 ram out there? Give me your preferences, because i think i made a bad choice with the memory i bought. I'm ready to buy 3 dimms of 256MB. I'm going to give my mwave memory to my father. I'll build him a good computer. I think he has a 166 or something. I feel so bad for him (lol)...

I love crucial.

and on their homepage they have a memory selection guide. After you select either your mb or system you will still have to make choices. I agree totally with the above post. Choose the memory size and cas2. No need to get ecc or anything else unless you are building a special purpose computer (such as a server and then I don't recommend it as less than a very experienced system builder.)HTH

Boonesmi hit the nail on the head.

Although "PC166" is not an "official" type of memory, you can definitely use it. All it is is hand selected PC133 with chips that can run at the higher speeds.

You can always run your memory lower than what it is rated for with no problems. So "PC166" will run at PC133/100/66 no problem. It's just nice to have the extra headroom for if you plan to overclock :D

doug is right, pc150 and 166 are just pc133 chips that are guarenteed to hit those higher speeds

if.... you run pc150 or 166 on a 133mhz bus there is absolutly no advantage then running plain old pc133

so unless you plan to overclock the fsb you dont need pc150/166 (not the multiplier, just the fsb)

Same chips that Mushkin uses for their Rev3, those modules works very well.
I have just upgraded to DDR mobo but before that I had Epox 8KTA3 and one 256 stick CompuWiz RAM.
155 fsb CAS2-2-2 rock solid.
Mem might have gone further but that mobo just couldn´t handle that high speed.
The 128 mb stick is better for really high bus speed but 150-160 fsb is really good for a 256 Mb module.

Also, Steve that runs the site is a top class person to deal with.

I have 2 Kingmax PC-133's in my KK266, 256meg. I am currently running them at 150/Cas3. No problems :)

My two sticks of Crucial PC133 CL=2 have been running @ 165SB for a couple months now in my KK266-R...great stuff. I can even get into Windows @ 170mhz, but the memory starts getting flaky above 168mhz...

Just an FYI...the Corsair PC-150 uses the same exact micron 7ns chips that are on the Crucial CL=2 PC-133.
