gAIM is also a good client.

personally i have used aim, deadaim, gaim, and trillian, out of all of them, aim + deadaim is the best for full access and use among your aim friends, i dont talk to anyone outside aim soo thats why its the best for me, however for style and fun and custumization i would go with gaim and folllowed by trillian, trillian i dont like so much, while gaim kicks ass for windows, yet it has one major problem, it is updated every few weeks which is great to see people caring about open source programs it lacks file transfer or at least i have not been able to accomplish such a task, once gaim gets file transfer it is by far better then aim.... aim for me never gives me any problems its just the thought of trusting microsoft aol programs yuckkkk

No one uses yahoo/msn/icq anymore.

My friends and friends' friends and such only use MSN/ICQ.

A few on Yahoo, I don't know anyone on AIM personally.

I use Odigo at work because it works through the corporate proxy/firewall.

Odigo is just another client that has its own service as well as support for MSN, ICQ, Yahoo and AIM.

There are 2 versions of Odigo, the regular install and executable version and a web based one.

We use Novell BorderManager here and all the ports are pretty much blocked off, except 80. Only the Odigo service will run over port 80, MSN, ICQ and such will not! (Even though it's supported through the client).

I had some problems with the web based version, but ICQ and MSN will work through that... buggy though.

Odigo does its job of chat capabilities, don't exepct other features like file transfers and such. But it works and I use it only at work :)

ICQ used to be so awesome back in the day (I started using it late 97). Now it kind of sucks with all of the ads and useless extras (even with ICQlite), but I still use it because I've got some good friends that I talk to a lot, and neither party ever wants to switch.
