HI, I would like to know which is the best heatsink that is quiet, I really hate noisy heatsinks, I have seen people talking about the following three heatsinks in this forum, but I don't really know about, therefore I would like to have your opinions on it, if u have other heatsinks that u think is good, please post here as well, any advices would be appreciated, thanks

Here are the there heatsinks:

I got the glaciator,

heres the pros
-Great performance
-Moderate noise (a lot less than a delta fan)
-Super easy to install
-Comes with Artic Silver
-Less expensive than SK6 and alpha

Cons
-pretty darn heavy

Ive had the vantec 6035-d which is a good all copper hsf with a delta that averaged 7500 rpm and the glaciator beat it by a few degrees C.

I highly recomend it , and heres a link to it for 17.50

Add the Thermal Integration Technology, Dr. Thermal TI-V77 series HSF combination. I purchased mine through newegg for about $25. I have a xp 1600+ running @ 145 fsb not unlocked. My temps are just under 40 without much load and just over with a load. The fan is low noise because it uses a 70mm fan instead of 60. It was easy to install, but you might want to add some Artic silver compound instead of using the included thermal pad to get the best performance. The pal 8045 uses 80mm I think. It's generally considered the best overall solution currently if it fits, but it's not cheap.

I have the V77L

It is LOUD

It uses a Y.S. Tech fan rated for 5,000 RPM at 42 DB.

My mother board says it's 6000 RPM and from the sound it is louder than 42DB.

My wife's reaction: What the F' is in there????

Most vendors claim this fan is 32DB, but look at your fan, Y.S. Tech rates it at 42DB and it sounds like it.

If you want a cheap quiet fan this is not it.

Get a Heat sink compatible with a 80mm fan and a cheap $2.50 28Db panaflo and you will be way better off. I wish I did!!!!

If you think the the TI V77L is quiet: GO see a doctor or get a quieter case fan!!!!!

I just switched from the sk6 to the pal 8045 with sanyo denki 36cfm fan. The 8045 is far superior in both cooling and quietness. sk6 is outdated technology for people who don't mind noise. I think the sk6 is only a good option if your motherboard won't fit the 8045 and you're deaf. If you can't fit the 8045 try a Taisol copperbottom. I haven't used it but it's supposed be much more effective with lo-flo fans than the sk6. sk6 is mediocre crap unless it's paired with a loud hi-powered fan.

i have the volcano 7, its quiet and cheap because it only runs at 2900rpm at 25c (case temp) and it can speed up to 5000rpm at 35c.
Performance is ok, i am running very stable with an XP1700+ at 1.6ghz. But you asked for quiet and cheap so i guess performance doesnt matter that much and the words quiet and performance seems to contradict itself at times.

thanks for all the feedbacks, really appreciated it. Seems like most of u are recommending the pal 8045 over the sk-6, right?
Imdmn04, sorry that I confused u, altho I only stated that I want a quiet and cheap heatsink, but performance is important as well. I wouldn't mind to pay $30 for a powerful heatsink if it's superior in both cooling and quiet.

Using a GG68 and a enermax whisper psu as the only case fan. 42-45 under normal load. for 13 bux which includes artic alumina($3), you can consider it as one of the biggest bang for your bux.

Yes I would love to own a alpha in the future but dishing out 40 bux to lower the temp by 5C was hard to swallow for me.

Welll I was tired of my ears bleeding with the OCZ Gladiator + delta so I switched to the Glaciator II and not only did I get a nearly silent HSF, I got better cooling. It's only $30 as well.

Princejoe-

You haven't mentioned what processor you'll be using, overclocking, or details about case ventilation. It makes a difference-

thanks for the reply again.

Bearmeat, what is the taisols, can u give me some details about it, please? thanks

Shinsa, what is the GG68 and enermax whisper psu? where can I get them?

Andy22, the Glaciator II u mentioned, is it the same one as the one in my post, millenium Glaciator?

Jhhnn, I have a PIII 600 right now, using the heatsink which came with the retail CPU, but I will be buidling a AMD XP1600 in two weeks, that is why I need advices from u guys...... yes, I intend to overclock it after I finish building it, I am not sure what motherboard yet, but I have bought a evercase
E4252. By the way, all the heatsinks can be used on both intel and AMD, right?

I bought my taisol from here Text
These are cold forged heatsinks and they work very well.
They are great for light overclocking or running a cpu at default . virtually silent.

edit: they are on sale at that site right now.

GC68
You can purchsae the enermax at newegg. Besure to get the whisper series for extra quietness. They also have the fan control whisper series for 5 bux more and you can set the fan o its lowest speed for ultimate sound dampening. The enermax comes with a 90mm intake so I just disconnected my 80mm case fan and let the enermax do all the cooling.

You'll need a fairly powerful cooler to overclock an XP1600. The Taisol 760092 would be a good choice- check KDComputers.com. They work well, and have a good clip. Not silent, not loud, either.

I've heard of some good results with the GC68 and millenium glaciator, but have no personal experience with them.

If you really want quiet, then you'll have to spring for the Alpha 8045 and quiet 80mm L1a panaflo fan or similar. It's so huge that it won't fit many boards, and that's also the reason it doesn't need strong airflow.

I'm of the opinion that the whistles and bells on the upgrade Enermax aren't worth the money- I have two of the eg351p-ve's, basic temp controlled fans, and they're both near silent. Stick with the basic eg351p-ve or eg365p-ve. Maybe spring for the fc model, forget the fca, fma, etc suffixes. These psu's are available in an excellent fairly large Enermax branded case nearly identical to the Antec sx1030-1040. Check pricewatch.com and then the vendor on resellerratings.com.
