Yes i know everyone already asked this, but take a second look. I want to know what the best heatsink is. I will be instaling a convertor on my heatsink so it can hold either an 80, 92, or 120mm fan on it, possibly a panaflo. So I just want to know what the best heat sink is. I looked at the HSF roundup that HardOCP just did, were they installed a 7K fan on all the heatsinks and it looks like the Taisol did the best. what does everyone think.
 
Alphas are my pick. Some of the Taisols are nice too. For the money GlobalWins are hard to beat. I'll pass on the Hedgehogs tho.
 
haha, looks like they already have it all covered. my rec. won't be useful for you, I guess, but my vos32 works wonderfully. it takes about 1~2 seconds to go from max temp of 50C down to 32C, then another 5 or 6 seconds to get down to the idle temp of 25~27C. I appreciate that. btw, it really isn't that loud.
 
Well I was originally thinking hedgehog, but then i heard about the non uniformity when it came to these coolers. Some work great others are crap. How loud are the alpha's, if they are loud then i won't be getting one of them, cause I am working on a quiet computer right now, cause it will be running my entertainment system. I know that 7K fan on the GlobalWins is loud as hell, so i won't be getting them. I have heard the taisols are nice, are they expensive. LMK
 
I like the Alphas pretty well. As an issue to keep in mind with your fan converter, remember that the clip needs to exert a certain amount of force to compress the pads on an AMD processor, if you are going to go with AMD. Having the weight of a 92mm or 120mm fan hanging as dead weight on the end of the heatsink may "lever" the heatsink so that it doesn't make contact evenly. Maybe you have already figured out a way around this.

If I wanted to funnel the output of a 120mm fan into a heatsink designed for a 60mm heatsink, I think I'd put the 120mm fan on the side panel as a blowhole, make a semi-flexible "funnel" attached to the fan, and have it connect to a flange on the heatsink, so that the fan is pushing cool air from outside the case and the weight of the fan is not hanging on the heatsink.
 
mechBgone: true... true... 🙂 I think that's why my vos32 comes with a support for the end of it that hangs over the dimm slots (something you socket kids don't have to worry about).

consider very carefully how you intend to support the HSF if you make it bigger than stock. also remember that almost ANY aftermarket heat sink worth getting will be a little heavier than stock. (*read, I said ALMOST, not all)
 
How loud is this fan, the 60X25mm 24 CFM,34 Dba Sunon fan?
Is the Sanyo Denki fan pretty effective? I know it's very quiet. I can get this for 7 bucks more.
