What is the best gaming mouse?

I know what you mean about the MX518. The ridge drives me nuts, and generally I think it's just too big to be used well by fingertip mousers. Now, personally, I love my Diamondback, but my hand is pretty big and my thumb winds up right over the side buttons when I use it. No problems there. You might want to give the Copperhead or the Krait a shot as well, since they're a little differently shaped. The Creative fatal1ty mouse is an interesting one, and might be worth a try too, but I'd also suggest looking at the Logitech G3. I haven't seen it in person, but it looks like it has a fairly simple shape that should be good for fingertip control, and the side button may be in a better place for you.

I know that's a lot of suggestions, so try before you buy if you can, and good luck!

what's a fingertip gamer? Is it just moving your mouse with ur finger instead of the palm of your hand?

they just Hyper and keep they're fingers levi on the buttons, no performance difference, just they're a bit jittery

Stick with the MS mouse then, theres really no point to these newer mouses, the higher DPI, unless ur running HIGH res it doesn't do anything really, because if ur shooting into 8x6,, it's gonna be one of those pixels, theres no behind the scene shot,

Put in the 1000hz patch, and u'll be good to go with that MS mouse, because it is one of the ones that can actually do 1000hz, the mx510,518 can only do 470hz avg. Razer copperhead can do 1000, but buttons arn't laid out as well. I'm not sure if the G5 can poll 1000hz.

btw ,, you can always just stop using ur finger tips..
in my experience with pianos, I started out playing with finger tip, as the teacher said, and i've stuck by it UNTIL Revolutionary Etude, then I realize that if i used the entire length of my finger for certain cross overs it was FASTER and more accurate.

Which is why i don't play with finger tip much anymore, unless it was "dulce" which then by feel,,, u just kinda do it.

I'm a hardcore fingertip mouser myself...not so much for gaming, as I don't computer game, but just what I'm used to doing in general. Your best bet is to try and find a used Razer Boomslang 2000 or 2100...that is by far the best fingertip mouse EVER made. If you want a more current mouse, the Logitech MX1000 actually isn't too bad because of it's deeply scooped thumb area. Certainly easier to finger tip control than the G7.

I got a razer diamondback and think it's great. You're right about that fact you can't reach all the side buttons, in fact i can only comfortably use the left, front one and it's generally set for reload. Other than that it kicks every other mouse i've used out the window, it's very light and I think that's what you'd being looking for as a fingertip gamer. My friend has mx518 and it's a great mouse also but i prefer my razer.

Once all is said and done though you can only decide on which mouse you like most through personal use, it's a very opinionated thing, other people can only point you in the general direction. It's also good to note that whilst you may hate a (decent) mouse for the first few days you use it you may end up never wanting to use anything else.

got a MX510, excellent, no problem there. If you don't like this type of mice, try: razor or copperhead or new MS gaming mouse, they got different design.

i used to hate my microsoft optical intellimouse when i first got it. my fourth finger kept pressing the right side button every time i moved the mouse. but i got used to it after using it for four years. in fact, i can't find anything better to replace it now.
I've got this thing too and it fits my hand perfectly. I got it for $8 from some Amazon OEM seller (arrived with terrible packaging and a manually burned driver cd...but hey, it was only $8). It's sad that there's so many fancy mice out there that can't get simple ergonomics right.

Don't mean to threadjack, but what's a good "fingertip" wireless mouse? Not really a gamer but I'm trying to move up to wireless from my mx310, which I love.

Can you wait until October?

If so, I think we have a winner. The Microsoft/Razer Habu is due out in a couple of months. It's a collaboration between Razer and Microsoft that runs at 2000 dpi with switchable resolutions, has physically reconfigurable side buttons (!), onboard memory, and a very Intellimouse-like shape. It could be the one.

Gonna be pricey, but I think it would be worth it. Take a look: http://notfornoobs.com/

The logitech revolution is also coming out soon, but I'm not sure if its suitable for a fingertip user.

I've owned Logitech MX700, 518, M1000, & G7. I decided to give another mouse a try. I had never heard the name, but after reading a few reviews, I decided to give it a try. I found a great price on the internet, and I've been nothing but happy with it.

I would suggest a Razer Copperhead for fingertip gamers, but I am one and love my G7.
