I have played many great games, and many for an extended time, but Starcraft was always king.

.. should go buy some Starcraft CD's. I'm pretty sure I have bought two sets already... it's like they vanish in thin air. I never lose anything else.

By far the most immersive and memorable gaming experience I've had.

Same here for single player, it was an epic experience not duplicated since. HL1 was fairly close second

For me it has to be WoW. Playing since beta. Beat everything except last few bosses in Sunwell. My /played has long since passed my EQ /played. A game that has me listening to about a dozen weekly podcasts has to be #1 on my list.

Star Control II. Yeah that game was awesome back in the day!! However a few weeks back I loaded it up on my 3DO and it just wasn't the same. Nostalgia > all.

X-COM. That game gave me nightmares. Seriously awesome game.

Bioshock was the best new game I played in the last year that was over 3 hours. Too bad I played it with my 7600GT before I got my 4850. I've been replaying it now and its visually stunning but it doesn't feel the same. Think it needs to age a bit more like some fine wine before I pick it up again.

For me, I'd definately say it is UT2004.

I've played this game since the demo came out in early 2004, going on 4 1/2 years now. I play nearly every week, for several hours a week still. I've been in clans and been server admins for the game and it still never gets old.

I've got about 30 gigs worth of game files including custom maps, mutators, mods and total conversions. In addition to the original single player and multiplayer gameplay, to name just a few of the mods I can play: racing games, wacky tournaments, adventure games, side scroller and top down shooters, zombie shooters, realistic WWII shooter, tower defense, and even battle with cannons and airships.

All this and more for about $33.00. Best money I've ever spent on a game.

UT2k4 is easily my favorite game ever, no questions about it.

I already know there will never ever be a game that replaces it for me, as it's the first game i really completely loved.

I still remember the first time i realized i was completely hooked.

It was the demo (game wasn't out yet), & i spent my entire Sunday playing ONS-Torlan over & over & over.

And it only got better.

I've spent thousands of hours playing & until recently, i was playing a few hours every week at least.

There are so many good memories with clans, with people i got to know through the game, random matches, fooling around in maps...there are so many things.

Counterstrike
Red Alert 2
Baulders Gate 2
Team Fortress 2
Diablo 2

Probably in that order of time played. WoW is up there in time played too, but it is definitely not a good deal, due to how much is cost to play for all that time. Plus I rue a lot of time I spent playing that fucking game :p

Single player, both PS:T and BG2. PS:T was "umm...wow" all the way to the end.

Multiplayer, that'd be Multiplayer Battletech 3025. Developed in 2001 for about 8 months and shut down by EA (along with other games) after the attack on the WTC.
I was with Liao...smalled House, best players, beat the crap out of everyone else.
MadCat_LE there, a name I still use today.

BTW, the AC/5 sound in MPBT:3025 is IMO one of the best cannon sounds in PC gaming.

Rome TW for well over a year.

In my youth when my imagination still ran wild, I would say Ultimate Doom. Nothing like conquering evil and that feeling that your winning against the Devil himself. Of course, now that I'm older it's just repetitive and boring. Sigh to be young again, because games are just not as fun when you have to deal with reality everyday.

quake 3 and guild wars have sucked up so much time it's not even funny.

edit: however guild wars is more more addicting than being super-quality gaming experience.

I really like lots of games... but I've been in this horrible rut lately. Nothing jumps to mind... and that's kind of scary, when a year ago I'd list off a ton.

Started up Fallout this afternoon and turned it off pretty quickly...

Actually, I had a ton of fun in MGS4...

Having thought a little longer, for PC, Fallout 2, Red Alert (spent forever playing that), Alpha Centauri (I liked it better than Civ2), Tie Fighter, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast

Bioshock

Hmmm that seems like a good list of great games

Best overall game is Unreal and Unreal Tournament, which I've merged into a single game along with loads of custom content which includes maps, mutators, and single player campaigns. I've been playing this game for eight years now and I still don't run out of stuff to play in it.

Best multiplayer game is Battlefield 2 by far.

BF2. Original Unreal Tournament 99.

I got my money's worth and then some on both of these games. Over hundreds of hours of multiplayer fun.
