PC game would be Deus Ex, followed closely by Hitman 2 (probably the only person in the world that would pick that one). DE almost felt like a different game everytime I played through it. I think I'll have to dig it up again and go through it once more.

Game on any platform would be Street Fighter 2 (and CE) in the arcade. Hands down, no contest.

You're not the only one <3

Nice, thought for sure I was. So much fun playing that.

Civ II. I spent many a long night playing that dam thing, I would see the sun coming up in the morning and would try to sneak into bed. The wife would just shake her head and roll over muttering something about me being an idiot.

Baldur's Gate 2.

Replayed it twice I think, maybe more. The expansion was just a perfect addition to the story and world.

This is a tough one but I would have to say Civ2 or Half Life 1 with all its mods.

Followed up by:

Wizardry VII
Dune 2
Master of Orion 2
C&C
Below the Root:)

Counter Strike

I never spent so much time with a game ever in my life and still haven't. I don't play it any more but it took years out of my life.

I have a few favorites:

KOTOR I - first time I ever remember staying up all night playing a game. 50+ hrs in 4 days.
Call of Duty - for its time, it was an awesome game.
Unreal Tournament - Facing Worlds is still my favorite multiplayer level.

On consoles:
Metal Gear Solid 2 on PS1
Super Mario Bros 3 on NES

BladeVenom

Steel Panthers. I probably played that game more than anything else. The Total War series would also be up there.

Hum. Hard question to answer. When i first played duke nuke 'em I was blown away but today I'm not sure I would think the game is very good. Like wise I thought half life was great (and took forever) but when I replayed it a couple of years ago it seemed kind of dull and almost boring.

Farcry is still a lot of fun (mostly to go in and play maps - like boat and stream - the later part of the game are kind of less interesting).
For a long time I really liked age of wizardry shadow magic (last of the series). Not many folks mention it - it is a turn base game but with better mechanics than heroes of might and magic and a bit more interesting then civ. But about a year ago it became rather boring and I stopped playing.
Wizadry 8 is another game I played through multiple times. I really liked that game but a lot of folks don't. Unfortuantely it is not easily moded and the map has gotten old.
With regards to 'best' value - i.e, replay-able none of the recent games have been that interesting. Bioshock, mass effect, half life 2, ... for the most part seem like 1 or 2 shot games and then they dull rather fast (not sure why but farcry has not lost its touch with me - i think because you can do the maps many different ways while half life 2 for example is fairly linear in approach).
games I want to replay when I have time include stalker, company of heroes, civ4, rome total war.
--

As a general rule if you are able to get latched onto a strategy game (rts or turn base) then it is likely to be the best value with regards to hours player/dollar spent...

but in terms of enjoyment i tend to favor rpg or rpg-fps

This is a very hard question, I guess Super Mario Bros. (and sequels up to Super Mario World, the DS game (NSMB) sucked ass compared to the rest) is one of the most significant games I've ever played but then there's also games like Warcraft or Diablo, the first The Sims, the Monkey Island series of games, Breath of Fire II, Civilization, Phoenix Wright and Castlevania (Metroidvania) are one of the few recent games, Ocarina of Time, Day of the Tentacle, Seiken Densetsu 3.

And there's probably a bunch I've forgotten but those are among the best games I've played ever, they are all from 2000 downwards except the recent (or future) sequels of Warcraft, Diablo, Civilization and the relatively recent Metroidvania and Ace Attorney games.

Oh crap I almost forgot a very important one, the Marathon Trilogy.

While I enjoyed a lot of the games in the PS2 era, I don't think any of them made an impact big enough as the games listed above.

This IS a hard question. I am strictly FPS guy but DE was definitely an awesome game for Sci Fi. Bioshock and COD4 were both fantastic. And I have to tell you, I honestly can't believe how much I play (and still enjoy) TF2 having loaded it up months ago. I still play this one 5 - 10 hours a week.
