I'm pretty sure the correct answer is "Civilization".

I'll give credit to the guy who said "Star Control 2" though. Fuck yeah. Don't forget to *enjoy the sauce*.

I forgot to add that Final Fantasy 7 was one of the best games of all time and definitely one of my favorites. It broke the mold. FF3/6 (US 3, JPN 6) was also an incredible game which ate lots of my time. Another game that took a ton of my time and was just an incredible quantum shift in gaming was Doom.

For PC, I'm going to have to say Team Fortress 2.

I've played countless hours of Quake 2, Quake 3, TFC, CS, and CS:S, as well as many in DoD:S and COD4, but to me TF2 is by far the best. Even if I'm on a crappy team and get owned the whole round, it's still a blast to play. Of course it helps that I'm usually at least one of the 3 MVPs :)

Quake1, played for 10 years. This kind of replayability would not have been possible without an amazing mod community. It also had one of the most competitive video game environments I've ever been a part of. Some of the most memorable videos, clans and events ever. It's the only game that I played in more than 6 different engines and was ported multiple times to span the test of new operating systems from dos to linux to vista.

Rome TW here as well. Played it for about a year straight. Played M2TW a bit, then went back to RTW for another few months.

That is a hard question. I would say baseball, but I had a lot of fun playing football, and I was really good at soccer (but I was rather competitive there, so I'm not sure it was quite as fun.) Drinking games were always fun too, but that was probably from the alcohol, and the environment (college dorm/house party - girls trying to get you to play a different "game".) I always had fun playing horseshoes too. Really anygame where I could be outside and have fun with my friends.

Counter-Strike: Source
It was free with HL2. Played it obsessively for a few years. Now I'm just trying to keep an even KDR. But it's still fun, and I'll always go back to it when I've got free time.

Even to this day, on a purely hours basis, Tie Fighter is still my most played game by a large margin.

I originally thought of which game I played that I really had the most fun with, but eveytime I thought of it, it was something outside with friends. Now that I have had some time to think, I have had a lot of fun playing Counterstrike on a LAN, and C&C, Read Alert, Warcraft 2, and Star Craft on LAN as well. I haven't done a LAN party in a while, but that was pretty fun back then.

Maybe he was talking about VIRTUAL outdoor games, like the new ones on the Wii. But I imagine he must be some serious type of loser to revel at the virtual drinking games with virtual friends and virtual skanks: "i am pretending to be sooo drunk, i can not even click my controller/mouse, no pointing!, take your top off!, click/DRINK!/click ..."

It's a toss up between:
- Heroes of Might and Magic 2 for PC
- UFO: Enemy Unknown on my trusty Amiga 500 (aka X-COM)

Since it's the PC Forum, Heroes wins :p

Lionheart. Would've been the best game I'd ever played if it hadn't been so goddamned buggy.

I agree with the guys who love XCOM, but the first one I played was Terror From The Deep, which is my favorite. I know, I'm a loser, but that game is awesome.

FF7 or Zelda OOT

My reasons: I played them both during a time when games actually took a long time to beat! Nowadays, I marathon most games, but these games stuck with my for a few months and I loved em both. A grand adventure that keeps on giving!

PC game would be Deus Ex, followed closely by Hitman 2 (probably the only person in the world that would pick that one). DE almost felt like a different game everytime I played through it. I think I'll have to dig it up again and go through it once more.

Game on any platform would be Street Fighter 2 (and CE) in the arcade. Hands down, no contest.

Diablo 2 for me. So many wonderful hours in college, playing D2 with guys on my floor.
