I like ZoneAlarm for a free software firewall. Don't know about free AV programs... although I did get Norton Systemworks free after rebate.

kerio pfw is great if you know what you are doing. highly configurable applcation specific or global rules and you can see what each application is doing network-wise

I like Kerio too, mainly because I experienced random net connection loss when I had ZA installed.

The only way to be 100% free of that viruses and hackers is to never turn on your computer.

Use Kerio. ZoneAlarm has security flaws that the company has admitted to. They simply said that to fix the security flaws you need to purchase the full version.

after some "troubles" with zone alarm and testing blackisle i ended up with using kerio pf (kerio is a spin-off of tiny. they split up some time ago).
as anti virus i use trend micro's housecall (watch out, link starts web-application). as i don't use a pop-mail but only webmail i don't need a on-the-fly anti-virus software. and thnx to housecall i use the latest definitions automaticaly.

EDIT englush or somesing

Yeah another vote for that...I use Zone Alarm & Norton 2003 Pro at home...but of course the latter is not free.

But as free ones go, ZA & AVG definately the best.

AVG is definitely the best virus scanner.

For firewall, I like BlackIce, but it's not free. I have had bad experiences with ZoneAlarm boning my network.

I'll have to check out that Kerio.
