What is the best (fastest) wireless internet service provides for laptops?

I currently have wireless internet on a verizon plan that lets me have 5gb of usage a month, but it's super slow!! I like it that I can plug in a usb internet adapter and get connected pretty much anywhere I go, but are there any other wireless service providers that I can get that are a whole lot faster than what I'm using now???

Thanks in advance,

AT&T's HSDPA ("3G") network has the capability of being the fastest, but unless you live in a larger city you probably won't get those 3G speeds, and the backup Edge network is sloooowwww. Sprint and Verizon probably have the most reliable and widespread high-speed data networks in the US.

You might want to give Sprint a try. You can get your money back on the hardware within 30-days if you don't like it.

Agree with ColKurtz's comment. I use Sprint EVDO-RevA across the USA with great success. Example, I am in a motel at present in South San Jose - doing great and sending this note. peed varies even in the same location - depends on time of day at times.

As far as "anywhere" goes, I have found no such animal. In Europe you need a GSM carrier - T Mobile and AT&T are fairly useful, but you usually need a local short term subscription.

In January I am going to South Africa where nothing exists - so I have rented a BGAN satellite link for a couple of weeks. That ain't cheap - but it works where communications are important.

Do you know if you have a EVDO Rev A USB adapter? There are at least two different versions of the EVDO technology used by Verizon cards which can make a difference of the speed you are receiving.
