A Mac with iMovie would be nice for a newbie. Barring that, Ulead Video Studio 7 should be fine. ..Or, if you want free, download the free MS Windows MovieMaker 2 if you have XP. WMM2 is way better than the original WMM XP came with. But, you'll still be limited on what formats you can save in (same goes for Apple's iMovie). That's why I prefer 3rd party commercial apps such as Ulead's. I've had Ulead Video Studio 6 for 2 years now and love it. Ulead Video Studio also has the added features of authoring and burning DVD/SVCD/VCD/MiniDVD's although the menu's are fairly spartan....
