I've played countless "Castle Defense" type of games for years, I haven't seen any that have peaked my interest. Anyone play anything recently that is worth mentioning?

Edit: I've added Retail games and/or mods for those retail games.

I really enjoyed the Antbuster game. I think that is what it was called. I definitely preferred it to DTD

I was seriously thinking of making a thread about this just last night. I think we should make a list and the OP should have links to all the best games.

My vote is Gem Craft.

Your progress through multiple levels, and if you die, you dont lose. You just go back to the main screen and pick another level.
It saves your progress so you can revisit the website and pick it up again. The game has an assload of levels and you usually unlock two for every one you beat.
Instead of permanent awards you get experience points and levels. At any time you can visit your skills screen and put points into special abilities, or wipe them out and build them up again at no cost.

In the battles you dont have lives. Every time an enemy makes it through you lose a little bit of mana. If you have plenty of mana saved up it wont matter too much if a few get through, and it doesnt subtract from your score.

Once you get really powerful you can revisit old levels to try for a higher score (and more experience points). Supposedly if you max out your score on all the levels you can unlock secret areas.

Last but least: Its one of the prettiest tower defense games.

2nd Place: Vector.

I always thought Desktop Tower Defense was considered to be the most solid TD game. Admittedly, though, this is one of the few that I've played, so I'm going purely on reputation.

Vector TD was always my favorite. There was also that little game that was TD, but it wasn't a flash game. I ended up buying it for $20. Good, but short. :(

As previously mentioned, desktop defense and gemcraft are good. Onslaught TD is another great one, the combo towers add some depth

Desktop TD is my favorite, but GemCraft is the second most popular game on my flash game website (right underneath a flash version of Sonic), so take that for what it's worth. I need to add some of these other ones that were listed by you guys.

Does the Starship Troopers map from SC count?

2 I like have already been mentioned, Gemcraft and hand drawn games. Gemcraft is easy unless you're going for the max score.

Sweet yall. I added retail games - and potential mods for those games. I remember in the past there had been a "Art of Defence" for the older command and conquer series. Any present day games/mods that have this defense gameplay in mind?

I always go back to on Resident Evil 4 when your in the house with all the zombies closing in on you and you have to find all the furniture possible to block the windows and openings on the first and second floors.... a game like that would be fun as all hell. :)

Do recent games like C&C3, AOEIII, Supreme Commander, have popular mods like this?
