everything is perfect for a switch to the athlon system. the fastest tbird is a little above 200 and 256 pc2100 ddr ram is close to 100 bucks. I am planning to get an axia/avia 1 ghz core or just buy the 1.33 cpu and clock wich ever I buy up to 1.5 ghz. Only question left on my mind is what ddr athlon mainboard to get. What i am looking for

-stability
-performance
-excellent oc ability (multiplier adjustment, many fsb settings, voltage of cpu core, ...)
-at least 5 pci and 2 dimm is ok, but more is alwasy better
-ide raid ata 100 support would be a nice plus but not neccesary.

Of course if some killer board is coming out soon, i would be willing to wait.

Asus A7M266, based oin the AMD760 chipset is the best DDR Athlon board. It lacks multiplier adjustment though, o you can only overclock via FSB.

The Asus A7A266, based on the ALi Magik1 chipset is a close second. And it also has multiplier adjustment which the A7A266 lacks.

The ALi chipset is slower then the AMD760 chipset, and barely faster then the KT133A and then only when it uses PC2100, with PC1600 it's slower then the Via KT133A + PC133.

The IWILL KA266 is also a very good board. Based off the ALi MaGiK1 chipset. I think it has good overclocking potential as well.

MSI K7T266 Pro-R, no question about it, the KT266 chipet is inherently better than ALi and AMD760. The board has all your requirements, and its currently available for $166.

thx all,
and I thought getting a board with all these requirments was impossible. The msi board is pretty cheap too, when compared to amd 760 boards.
