My MBNA Card gives me nothing but $10 giftcertificate to Barnes and Noble once every three months. :|

Personally I like the Chase Perfect Card because:

1) 6% rebate on gas purchases within first 90 days
2) 3% rebate on gas purchases after the first 90 days
3) 1% rebate on all other purchases
4) Rebates are credited directly back to your cc every month when your statement prints
5) FREE VISA extended warranty coverage (not all VISA's offer this but Chase Perfect Card does)
6) No annual fee the first year, no annual fee after that as long as you make 9 purchases a year.

Right now I'm enjoying 5% cash back on every purchase through March 1 with the Citibank Platinum Select Mastercard. Maybe you could call them and see if you can get that deal. They sent it to me in the mail.

I received that also but I plan on closing that account since it's almost paid off (only $1,600 more to go).

thanks. 😀
i applied for the chase card. i heard that discover offers 2% cashback.

i use the citi platinum select, no annual fee, 1% cashback straight up. get a $100 check when it passes 100 (yes that requires 10,000 in purchases but ucla takes credit cards for tuition). it's not as good as some others mentioned here.

anyway, discover's 2% cash back is not a hot deal. if you're talking about the regular discover, they have a crazy staggered percent back scheme where your first $xx,xxx in purchases is 0.25% then the next xxxx is .5% and .75 and up to 1% if you get there. i dont know the exact figures but the point is that it's not a true 1. also, the 2% is only if you use the money to cash in as a gift card to one of their sponsored stores, at which point they'll double the cash back you have stored. i still have a $40 borders card that i cant get rid of.

citibank offers some good cards. that gas card ross man is pimping sounds pretty good. too bad i dont drive. 🙂

Make sure UCLA doesn't use a clearing house which charges for the service. Service charges of up 3% are common when paying universities with credit cards, and obviously your 1% back on it doesn't make up for it.
