What is the best CPU cooling software

Haven't paid much attention to the the latest releases of software that is supposed to help throttle back CPUs. Which ones are supposed to be best...I used to use one called Rain which did a nice job, but whats best now.

Also, isn't Windows 200 supposed to have some sort of throttle back control for the CPU built right into it? Thanks in advance.

I am using rain also. I heard there was a program called water fall that is better then rain, but you have to pay for it.

im not sure about that win2k throttle back stuff, just dont do any supercooling when using those throttle back proggys, you can mess up your chip that way from condensation forming if it gets too cold

Forgot about Waterfall, but I remember using that for a short period of time too. Are there any new CPU monitoring/cooling programs out in the past year or so?

Damn man, I was getting super hot readings(up to 42 idle!) after I got my new 700@1075@1.75V. Anyway I installed rain, and it dropped my temp to 28-30 idle. I tryed reseating my heatsink/fan(alpha pep66) and turned off rain and my temps rose big time. Anyway I was just wondering if the temps are being read accurately with rain on??

run Rc5..
hehe j/k
but you will use the cpu cycles instead of wasting them at the cost of a little heat..

Windows2000 is the most effective CPU cooler for my P3 550e@803. Idles at 89F in Windows2000. Idles at 94F with Rain in Windows98. And I know the difference isn't in my temperature sensing, because they read the same in both OS's under full load. Rain has never been optimized for the P3, so I don't think it is as efficient as it was with the Celerons.

I have used one other CPU cooler in 98. It's actually part of the driver for my Asus GeforceDDR video card. It works a little better than Rain getting my CPU to idle at 92F.

And to everyone who doesn't understand the CPU cooling process in W2K:
It's a system service.
It's called System Idle Process.
It's always issued PID #0.

i think that cpuidle is the best idling program out there - bar none. at least this is the case for windows98 w/o AMD chips. durons/thunderbirds act finky with cpuidle.

that's one of the reasons i switched over to windows2000 🙂
