Duke Nukem and Half-Life.

Few games made me really want to keep on playing, wishing it would never end.

Master of Orion 2 (Mac and PC)

circa 1997 - best turn based game ever. I have a 2 gig hd in my system that I plug in for the sole purpose of booting win98 to play it.

edit:
other types:
RPG - Escape Velocity from AmbrosiaSW.com - Override and Nova.
RTS - Starcraft BW (War3 should be renamed DotA - the only thing I ever played it for)
Shooter - Descent series. All of them, with maybe Descent3 as an exception.
Modern shooter - UT2k4
Quick stress drain - Ballistics, by Grin
Most professionally done - Command and Conquer; every single one of them. The original, though, looked far superior on the Macs (keep in mind the timeframe).

FPS: Quake 2- My summer when I was like 14 was entirely gone to that game, if I played less than 12 hours a day, I was doing something wrong that day.

MMO: Anarchy Online - My junior year of high school was devoted to this one. Had a 4.0 GPA, so I didn't have a huge problem with it interferring with school. Did gain 30 lbs from that game over 8 months though.

RPG : Baldurs Gate 2. Best game I have ever played.

StarCraft. That game is like a recurring STD. I've quit it atleast 3 times, reinstalled it a couple weeks ago and am hooked again.

most fun i have everhad playing games on the computer goes to the monkey island series.. i loved the creativity and twisted humor

lucasarts had something special back then with the guys who created monkey island, full throttle, sam and max, the dig...

to bad they decided these games were no longer worth while making.....

Diablo 2, BF:V, Dawn of War, Counterstrike...from 1.1 to 1.5 is when I played. I stopped at 1.6. WC3 for awhile until the guy I always teamed with couldn't do it because his dorm didn't get hooked up to high speed yet...

you can never get tired of starcraft, its replayability is freakin great, especially when you have mapedit.

Mafia. In what other game can I be trying to find a gun to assasinate a politician, give up, and then find a bucket lying around with which to bludgeon the aforementioned politician, catch one of his guards by surprise, and then use his gun to flee the scene of the crime with 5% health. I don't think that level can ever be topped in any game I will ever play, since it was not what was intended, was a complete spur of the moment deal, and was actually successful.

easily the original Descent. So much atmosphere, and so much fun. I seriously played it for 8 hours at a time some nights. I haven't played any of the Descent games in at least 3 years, but I can still tell you how to navigate the first 7 levels of Descent. I know exactly how many shots from each weapon the different mechs take to destroy. I know all the secrets and shortcuts, and yet I haven't touched the game in years. Man, now I want to fire up my 233 and play some Descent....

Other honorable mentions are:

Descent3
Unreal Tournament (played that like it was my job)
Diablo II (I'm actually still playing it)
Quake 3
Need For Speed Porsche Unlimited
System Shock 2 (never did beat it though)

The one I have has 199 levels. I can't make it past the 3rd boss which is level 120 or so.

counter-strike, considering I also won some spare change off tournaments and such.
