I played Quake 2 for years. Instagib with Instahook and powerup runes. I don't know about the best game, but it was the most fun I had in a game... a lot of it had to do with the community of friends.

gotta be the AD&D Gold Box series (Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance) back in the late 80's-early 90's. i really really enjoyed playing them.

btw they're RPG, but you should know that already.

Not a lot of replayability but X-Com has to be the best game ever.

For FPS its either UT or BF1942.

Game that gets played the most: EverQuest, soon to be replaced by EverQuest 2. This is kinda weird because I've always stuck with FPS: UT, UT2K3/4, QII, QIII, Serious Sam, you name it. I guess Diablo I and II paved the way to actually having a progression, which got me looking into MMORPG's.

Now I primarily save my twitch games for lan-parties; still have to pick up Tribes: Vengence, and can't wait for Half-Life 2 (liked Doom3 also, I don't mind a single-player game if it's good). I have to reload FarCry as my HD died about 1/4 of the way through, and I haven't gotten around to replaying it. I don't know where I'm at in PainKiller, but I kinda got bored with it, but I'm sure I'll go back and play some more sometime (hence, I haven't deleted it off my hard drive).

Amazingly, I probably have about 5-6 games that are still in the wrapper: Max Payne 2, Wolverine's Revenge, Splinter Cell, Tron 2.0, Enter the Matrix (not in the wrapper but might as well be: sucked).

I probably spent equal amounts of time on AOE II and Diablo II over the years. D2 was simply awesome though. That game was like crack. Everytime I turned on the computer I had to jump in and play for a few hours.

You really need to bust that one out. Especially if you have the movie on DVD, and then go back to the game and try to find the references and the sound samples. Very cool stuff. ;)
