Anything below 1ghz - Alpha 6035 + any old 20cfm fan can be found for cheap.
Anything above -splurge, don't skimp on a heatsink and fan. If you spend 200 bucks on a chip, be prepared to spend 40 bucks to keep it cool.

If you fall into the latter category, I suggest a Thermalright SK-6. It manages to meet or beat the Swiftech MC462, and it's around 45 dollars shipped. Like I said, AMD chips are not Intel, and they require good cooling. You are much better off safe than sorry.

i would suggest a taisol. you didn't specify what cpu you are using so i'll make some general suggestions...if you are using a duron ot t-bird under 1ghz and are not juicing the crap out of it to overclock, a cek733092 can be had for under $20 (it performed quite well on my t-bird 900@1000). if you are going to overclock or you are going for a t-bird faster than 1ghz, you can probably use the cgk742092 which is a little under $30. otherwise, something like the globalwin wbk38 with a sunon or ystech fan instead of the delta should perform well for a reasonable price. the fans on the taisol's are quiet yet powerful. obviously, room temp and case airflow have a big effect on cooling as well...

i've heard the OCZ Gladiator is good, although many members have qualms with that company, an equally good replacement is the Millenium Glaciator, of which i'm in the process of getting(was going to get the gladiator but after talking with a few members on this board regarding OCZ's customer service, decided to switch) I'm running a Duron 800 and a Tbird 1.2.....grabing one for both...they're both about the same price(40), but the glaciator cooled better by one degree in a review i read. good luck picking a good one, and as mentioned before, don't skimp
