what is the BEST compression utility?

i'm talking about highest compression ratio, not winzip or winrar, they don't compress very well. Is there a dos utility that really compresses it, even if it takes a long time to decompress.

ACE is fairly good.

The guys you make RAR have a beta compression tool that is spost to compress better.

Check what the warez groups use, they allways seem to get good compression radios (or so I'm told 🙂 ).

DosRAR compresses better than winRAR

RAR is second only to ACE, and the difference is only a few KB. I'd recommend either WinRAR or WinACE, but do not install the WinACE 'freeware' version. It comes with spyware called Webhancer, and will not function without Webhancer installed, so you can't remove it and still use the WinACE 'freeware' version. Either way, you can download and use the trial versions of both WinRAR and WinACE, and the pricetags are generously priced if you decide to buy one.

Bzip2 compresses quite good. You can give it a try

how about stuffit? i think it's pretty good. the box says it the best. but so do all boxes

SBC has amazing compression and encryption features, but its still under developmet, the final version havnt been released yet.

I vote for winrar it's very usefull.

Yep, SBC is the best. Faster than winrar and winace and better compression.
