First off all I am getting ready to buy a new phone and was wanting to know some of your experiences with current Cingular phones?

Also, I have an older nokia Cingular phone that has infrared, I also have a Dell 600m laptop that has infrared.
Is there anyway I can save the phone numbers on my laptop so I can put them on my new phone?

Also, what is the deal with the GSM phones on the nationwide plans it is cheaper but, how is the coverage area I have an old TDMA nationwide plan.....

I don't know if there is a specific program to do the address thingy... I often go to Tucows.com for my misc software needs. See if they have a utility for you to use. I know you can transfer them from phone to pda, so I don't see why you couldn't do the same with lappy. As for the GSM, i just got one that is tri-mode, uses whatever signal is the best, and as it stands now, GSM works well for me, Riverside, Ca. but from what I hear, GSM isn't nearly as complete as the slightly older network coverage. What area do you live in now?

Southeast Missouri.
The coverage on the map looks fine for my uses? but, I've heard many horror stories of the map not even coming close to showing the real coverage area....

My wife kept my plan, and we got a nokia 8265i off of ebay. The TDMS coverage is outstanding. The GSM for Cingular, using Moto t720, is horrible. Not even close to what the maps show.

I would recommend the Sony t616 of all of their phones. If you want TDMA / GSM get the Nokia 6340i. It doesn't have a great rep, but your coverage area will be much better.

Go with the Sony t610/616. But, one thing, make sure you DO NOT go to one of those cingular stores to get service. Search around for local mom and pop stores that sell cingular services, they can probably cut you a deal. For example, down here in southern cali, we have a bunch of asian stores that sell cingular/tmobile/etc. They generally offer free phones (i got my t610 for free), but the cingular stores would have charged you for the phone.

Well I went ahead and got the 6340i, man those nice GSM phones were hard to pass up but, the coverage area just looked a little to questionable to me, if I wanted a crappy coverage area I would just get a sprint. If it weren't for that fact that I needed actual nationwide coverage (for my job and because I am moving soon) I definitly wouldn't have hesitated to get a GSM phone.

One thing I don't understand is why do they offer the nicer phones for cheap and some for free, on their crappier plans and leave people like me that spend good money on the actual nationwide plans stuck with the crappier phones, the only have two phones that are TDMA;6340i and a cheap sony phone. I guess it may just have to do with the technology but, I have to say I am disappointed by that.
