So, just recently my old card (well, not old, it was an HD Radeon, forget the exact model) had overheated and pretty much exploded my computer due to a bad fan when the computer was made. Needless to say, this completely destroyed my gaming since the motherboard only has a G33/31 chipset.
So, question is simple, what do you think is the best card for my computer? I don't want too expensive, just enough to play most games smooth.

What games do you play or intend to play on it?
Nothing too extreme. Let's just go with a modern day game, like Portal 2 or Bad Company 2.
And my resolution is 1680x1050, how do I find my power supply spec?

Its written on the psu. We are looking for brand name, total wattage, and the 12v+ rail specs.

It should look like this. In this picture the 12v+ spec woould be 12v-1 at 25 amps and 12v-2 at 25 amps, total wattage is 750 and the name brand is ultra x2.

edit: is this a pre built Dell or HP computer?

At that resolution I'd recommend getting an HD6850 or maybe GTX460 768MB, it would be a good match for your cpu, and not break the bank too much. Neither of them use a ton of power, but it would be a good idea to check your PSU ahead of time anyway, both to make sure you have the PCI-e power plug(s), and to check the +12v amps.
