if you're interested in making hot tortilla soup using nothing but a blender, then by all means get a blendtec or a vitamix. otherwise, the original is still the best

I seriouslly don't think he is going to be blending Ipods, pennies and marbles. I have a kitchen aid blender. You know the one with the cast iron base. 5 speed. Electronic push button. I got it a couple of years ago. Works wonderful. It's got a glass container. Just recently kitchenaid is not using glass but plastic. Which I don't really agree...

Oster use to make good blenders. My mom bought one in the 80's and it still works. It has a powerful motor and a plastic base. Now Oster is sold at walmart. It sucks now.

Dude, you're going to buy your g/f a blender for Christmas? How romantic...why not just get her a vacuum cleaner?

I also got the KA blender and it will grind your arm off. I was using a heavy wood spoon to (foolishly) tamp stuff into the blender and it was like a pencil sharpener.

I don't know about good ones, but if you're lookingto chop ice to make frozen drinks the Magic Bullet sux. Girlfriend got one for her b-day. The commercial makes them seem so awesome. Zap, zap, zap and your stuff is chopped, pureed, whatever. We tried doing Daiquiri's and it couldn't chop the ice completely. We tried making pesto and it couldn't chop the basil or the pine nuts completely. It's pretty craptastic. For things like fruit smoothies with some liquid to them I think it might be ok, but no substitute for a good blender.

Maybe you overfilled the blender? I use a Magic Bullet and it's the best blender I've ever owned.
