What is the best bang for the buck average video card able to handle Counter-strike?

As the topic says.

Also, does anyone here have good experience with Newegg's refurbished video cards. I'm looking for a good enough video card to play some Counter-strike and that's it. Looking to save as much money as possible. I'm not a hard-core gamer. Thank you for your help.

Robot.

If you can still find them, Geforce 3 would even be good enough for CS at 1024x768 res with medium detail.

My old GF3 Ti200 played CS at 100fps steady at 10x7 no candy. You'd be golden if you could get your hands on something like a Ti4200.

Thanks for the replies. What about those Radeon ones? What model is reasonable to purchase? Thanks.

Radeon 8500 handles CS fine and has hardware truform if you want an ATI card.

My GeForce3 Can run CS @ 1280x1024x32 With 2xAA 2xAF and maintain a very good framerate. Usually between 45 and 60.

With AA and AF disabled it maintains a constant 60FPS. That is also with fully skinned models and new sprites and animations.

Thats on a p4 1.5
GeForce3
512mb RDRAM 800.

Yeah, if you don't mind 15fps and gunning people down with a mechanical dong. 😛

Leave Truform off, and it's a great card.

*spams smoke grenades*

Have they fixed that in 1.6, or is that still the anti-no0b lag weapon of choice? 😀

Geforce 2 Ultra, i get 250 fps with it when developer 1 is on and vsync off.. 85 constant with off and vsync on.. though smoke can be a bitch

During smoke the FPS lowers yes. When far away from smoke, it barely drops. Mabye 5 or 10 frames, when In smoke it drops about 30. Never the less it is still extremely playable even in smoke.

Another thing, smoke will drop your FPS on ANY comp or ANY card. Even on my new comp, FPS drops when in smoke. My FPS is consant 60 with 4xAA 8xAF, but when in smoke it drops to about 45. On my buddies computer with similiar specs his drops to about 35FPS in heavy smoke. He is running a A64 3200, 1gb ram, 9800pro. I have yet to see a computer that does not slow down somewhat when in heavy smoke.

Just about anything from the last 4 years will handle CS no problems. I used to play CS on a TNT2. Low ping is more important.

True...

....until someone throws a smoke grenade. It ran fine even with smoke with my GF2 Ti200, but ran perfectly on a GF3 and 8500.

Just turn the quality of the smoke down. Thats what I did when they first put smoke in. It kinds sucked cause they you had the moving white sheets on the screen, but it wasn't that big of an issue.
