Looking into throwing together an A64 rig. What is considered the best bang for the buck A64 assuming it will be overclocked? Was also wondering what boards are recommended for A64's?
That's not correct the 2800 A64 Socket 754 is the best bang or the buck.
It offers only 10% difference in performance but 18% lower price than a 3000 A64 by definition the 2800 is a better value.
As far as mobo both the EPoX "EP-8KDA3J" nForce3-250Gb and the CHAINTECH "VNF3-250" nForce3 250 are the best deal at less than $90. The epox being better because if gigabit chipset.
My 3000+ in an AOpen ak86-l (no pci/agp locks) does 2.3ghz before things start to crap out, that's at stock voltage with the retail heatsink. I have a vnf3-250 on the way that should be here sometime this week.
754 Newcastles all the same chips but for muliplier. With the epox board you can set HTT so high the multi of 9 won't matter but rather your chips individual overclockabity and cooling.
Maybe I dont want to give up my 10x multiplyer? Well come to think of it, I would have to drop the multiplyer anyway because of the overclock on the bus. So it does make sense to get the 2800 A4.
Either way the Epox 8KDA3+, Chaintech VNF-250 , or the MSI K8N Neo Platinum are all good mobo's. Whichever you can find cheapest.
