What is the Best Auto Insurance? EDIT: What am i doing wrong?

I am comparing plans seeing if i should switch from USAA because it seems a bit expensive, would be around $1700 a year

i tried geicoand they claim a 6 month premium would be $1,500!

what insurance companies do you use?

I have been driving with no collisions and no traffic violations

here is the info I am putting in

Current Insurance (USAA)
Liability -
Bodily Injury $50k/ea person
Bodily Injury $100k/accident
Property Damage $50k.accident
Medical Payments
Medical Payments $50k/ea

Uninsured Motorists
Bodily Injury $50k/ea person
$100k/accident
Physical Damage Coverage
Comprehensive ACV (deductible-$500)
Collision Loss ACV (deductible-$500)
Towing and Labor (incl)

so far my quotes range from
$1700 a year
2,628 a year by state farm
3,000 from geico

I have USAA and because they are non-profit, then tend to have the best rates. The cost of insurance is affected by age, location, car-model and driving history. I live in a farming area of Maryland, have a 2002 Nissan Sentra, am over 25, perfect driving record and pay a litle over $1000/yr. LA is a bad area, so that alone will hurt you. I think $1700 a year for LA is great.

Yeah I have about the exact same as you

2001 Nissan Sentra, over 25, perfect record

I seriously doubt that you'll be able to beat USAA's prices. I've been with them for 16 years now and as far as I'm concerned, no one can touch them on rates. They can offer better rates because they are selective in who they will insure since you have to be an officer in the US military or an immediate family member. I can tell you from experience that they also have good service with claims as well.

Yeah I am guessing now that its just the zip code I live in.

Try AAA or American Express insurance. Both companies to me are respectable and they have great rates. I'm in Riverside, CA, and I pay $700 liablity only with twice the coverage you list above with AAA. I don't carry medical though, since I do have my own health insurance. You are required to pay for an AAA membership to get insurance from AAA. But free maps, trip tips, good service, and a yearly dividend (usually covers the cost of the membership), is all worth it.

I'd stick with USAA. Their service kicks...it would suck if you went with Progressive or some other lame company like that, get into some accident, have comprehensive, but then they drag @ss on getting you back on your feet. USAA takes care of you...that means a lot and is worth the extra price. My $.02

i have AAA in LA also. my car is fully covered, the limits are about the same but my deducitble is at 1k. lowering it 500 would only add about 160 on my premium when i asked. insurance for me this year is about 1600ish, plus i received the dividend, so my insurance went down over 150 bucks, so i'm only paying a tad over 1500. woohoo!

i also have good driver discount, garaged, car alarm discounts. my zip code is the UCLA area zip code, so i'm already paying a lot but its not bad. i like AAA service, esp since i've always been on their insurance.
