For which card?
Usually, if you want 0db, then there is no fan at all, only a big heatsink.
Why 0db anyway? I doubt you will hear anything lower than 30db unless you happen to be in a dead silent room.
Well, I'm referring to stuff like Saphire's Intelligent Fan Control II, or MSI's ZeroFrozr. Things like that. And generally, if it's spinning, I can hear it.
Are you wanting a passive card? Or just one that idles with the fan(s) off?
NM saw your reply. Generally Sapphire has the best cooling solutions for AMD. Personally I'd stay away from the AIB's who manufacture for both AMD and nVidia as they tend to use the same cooler for both brands instead of one that is specifically designed for the AMD card.
I want a card that will be silent when I'm not gaming, but will actively cool when needed. Massive heat sinks don't scare me; that's why I mentioned MSI. The idea of the fans being off while the GPU is < 60 degrees is enticing.
I'm gearing up for an RX 480, but I have no interest in a reference card. I think I'll download the SAPPHIRE TriXX Utility to see how versatile the fan profile stuff is. For my CPU and system I use SpeedFan and it gets the job done, but I have an EVGA GTX 760 and it doesn't support 0db functionality. Lame.
fan off in low load situations seems to be a popular new feature to add. You may see more AIB partners coming out with that kind of solution for the 480 in order to compete with those that already have. We'll find out in the next couple of weeks
